Walking Holiday Lanzarote & La Graciosa: Trekking Through Volcanoes and Coastal Trails

The Lanzarote & La Graciosa walking holiday combines two very different islands in one varied trekking experience. You start on the peaceful, car-free island of La Graciosa before continuing across Lanzarote, from the green north along the coast and through the volcanic interior to Playa Blanca in the south.
Your journey begins with the ferry crossing from Órzola to La Graciosa. On this small island, you walk along sandy trails between volcanic hills, quiet bays and wide beaches. The car-free character of La Graciosa makes it a relaxed start to your walking holiday.
Back on Lanzarote, the trek begins in the north. From Órzola, you walk towards Haría, situated in the green valley known as the Valley of a Thousand Palms. From here, the route continues towards the west coast. Following old walking trails, you reach the viewpoints above Famara before descending to the famous coastal village and its wide sandy beach.
From Famara, you head inland. The landscape gradually reveals more of Lanzarote’s volcanic history as you walk through lava fields, past volcanoes and through quiet villages towards La Geria. Here, vineyards grow between the black volcanic rocks, creating one of the island’s most characteristic landscapes.
The final stages take you further south, with views towards the volcanic area around Timanfaya. The trek ends in Playa Blanca, where you can relax by the sea after your final walking day.

What makes this walking holiday so special?

Two islands in one trip: Combine the peaceful character of La Graciosa with the varied landscapes of Lanzarote.
La Graciosa: Walk along sandy trails, beaches and volcanic hills on a car-free island.
Green Haría Valley: Discover one of the surprisingly green areas in northern Lanzarote.
Famara: Walk towards the spectacular west coast and the wide sandy beach of Famara.
Volcanic Lanzarote: Trek through lava fields and past volcanoes and discover the island’s remarkable geology.
La Geria: Walk through the famous wine region, where vineyards grow among black volcanic rocks.
From north to south: Finish in Playa Blanca after discovering Lanzarote on foot from north to south.

Walking level
This trekking holiday is suitable for active walkers with a normal to good level of fitness. The distances are manageable, but the exposed terrain and volcanic surface can make some walks more demanding. Most of the route follows unpaved trails and quiet roads, with some elevation changes along the way.

Combine with Fuerteventura
Would you like to extend your walking adventure? Lanzarote & La Graciosa is ideal to combine with Fuerteventura. From Playa Blanca, you can take the ferry to Corralejo and continue your trek along the rugged coast of Fuerteventura. You can extend the journey with a visit to Los Lobos and continue walking through northern Fuerteventura.

This creates a longer island-hopping adventure combining Lanzarote, La Graciosa, Fuerteventura and Los Lobos.

Additional information

Programma

1, Aankomst in Las Palmas
