El Hierro is the seventh and last island of the GR131!
El Hierro, an island with a soul! We are going to take you to feel this soul. El Hierro is the smallest island, and last of this archipelago. We go back 40 years in time. Authentic, relaxing, no crime, helpful and very nice people. This island does not want mass tourism but small scale. You will stay in a luxury hotel with a swimming pool, right by the sea. This small-scale hotel is Half Board and is fully equipped. The 2 day route of the GR131 must also be respected. And we’re going to do this! It is a route of the people and every 4 years the whole island comes together to make this journey on foot. Young old, everyone is going to do this trip from the south to the north in one day. We will walk this route in 2 days with a small group. In other words, the last remnants of the GR131, and…. with respect for the islanders. Your guide will tell you everything interesting about El Hierro and the Camino de la Virgen.
In addition, we have two beautiful walks with a guide on the program. And a visit to a bodega. You will experience a wonderful journey and come back completely de-stressed.

1 | Arrival Tenerife
You will be picked up by us upon arrival at the airport. We drive to Los Cristianos where we take the ferry or domestic flight to El Hierro. Arriving at the hotel, we get to know each other while enjoying a drink.
2 | Departure Santuario Nuestra Señora de los Reyes to Aparcamiento de La Llanía – 15 km
From our hotel we leave for the starting point of our first stage of the GR131. We start at an altitude of 700 meters and climb to 1301 meters this day. Malpaso is the highest point where we have a phenomenal view of the island. the paths are wide and easy to do for anyone with a fear of heights. After 15 km we reach the end point of this day.

3 |Aparcamiento de La Llanía to Valverde – 15km
The second day is also the last day of the GR131 Camino de la Virgen. No difficult climbs, but through the countryside where you get the feeling that you are walking in Scotland. These last 15 km we mostly walk downhill to the church in Valverde.

4 | With the group to the bodegas of the island
The GR131 has run. A not difficult trip, but we are going to do a fun activity with the group today. Wine from El Hierro! We get an explanation with a tour and of course we will taste.
5 | Samosa
When you see El Hierro, you get the picture of the leaning tree. We will go out with a guide in this area, and you will get all the information. You walk through different landscapes.
6 | Las Rutas de Agua
Another part of the island is the story of the tree with water. Another very interesting part of the island. Very green and watery area. Again our guide will explain everything.
7 | Rest day and travel day to Tenerife
This day should be used to return to Tenerife, where we say goodbye together with Tapas in the evening.
8 | Flight back

The hiking pin of the GR131
Our unique hiking pin. Each island has its own color. You get this hiking pin when you complete the GR131 Camino Naturales on one of the seven islands. With a group tour you get this at the end of the trip. With an individual trip you take a stamp ticket with you that you have signed off at various locations. With this card you will receive your earned hiking pin. You are eligible for this if the trip is booked with Canary Hiking!
