Climbing Mount Teide via Pico Viejo is a high-level hiking activity. Not only because of the slope, but also because of the altitude at which we will walk for about 7-8 hours. During the Pico Viejo hike you should be prepared for cold temperatures. The Pico Viejo means ‘old peak’ and at 3135 meters it is the second highest peak on the island. The route to the top of Mount Teide via the Pico Viejo is more challenging than some other trails, but offers beautiful views of the volcanic landscape.
For the Pico Viejo hike you need to be in good health and in good physical condition (regular exercise in the mountains), which allows you to perform the activity comfortably. It is estimated that a total of around 7-8 hours of activity is required (remember that it could be an additional 4 hours depending on the availability of the Teide volcano cable car).

Important:
It is important to rest before the activity!
Do not drink alcohol before the activity to avoid altitude sickness. At the Teide summit there will be sulfur gas that needs to be processed by the liver. This activity is not recommended for children under 16 years of age, pregnant women or people suffering from lung or breathing problems, heart failure or high blood pressure.
Directions:
– Kilometers: Total approx. 12 kilometers.
– Height difference: total approx. 1450 m.
– Altitude: 3718 m. max. and 2348 meters. min.
– Timetable: total 7 – 8 hours approximately. (including descent with cable car).
We will study the weather conditions in advance to make sure the cable car is working for the descent. If the Teide volcano cable car is not working, we will descend on foot, which could cost us an extra 4 hours and a descent of about 1200 meters, so we have to be prepared for that. Bring enough food and water!
