The ancient forest of Cubo de la Galga in Puntallana is a true natural treasure. After visiting this area, you’ll understand why La Palma is known as the Green Island.
If you are a hiking and nature enthusiast, this route is not to be missed. Discover the lush laurel forest, whose origins date back to the Tertiary period—over 20 million years ago! No wonder you’ll be amazed by the rich, dense foliage.
Here, green is the protagonist. We admire plant species such as laurel trees, lime trees, viñátigos, barbusanos, and gigantic ferns. In this magical place, you will undoubtedly feel at one with nature.
We walk through areas of high humidity, where sunlight barely reaches the forest floor. A unique and unforgettable environment!
After immersing ourselves in the Cubo de la Galga, we ascend to Mirador de Somada Alta (900 meters above sea level). After a moderate effort, we are rewarded with stunning views over the village of San Andrés y Sauces. On clear days, you can even see the neighboring islands of Tenerife and La Gomera.
In the final part of our hike, we visit the small hamlet of Mirador de San Bartolomé, located between the Nogales and La Galga ravines. We also stop at Mirador de La Montaña, better known as Salto del Enamorado—an impressive spot for stargazing at night.
This location offers a spectacular panoramic view over the municipality, known for its agricultural traditions, as well as a section of the eastern slopes of La Palma.

A brief description of this fascinating route: mountains draped in green, deep ravines merging with the ocean, towering cliffs… plus, an intriguing statue that recalls the local legend of Salto del Enamorado.
