The GR138 is a new hiking route in Gran Canaria that invites hikers to explore the island’s diverse and beautiful landscape. This route, with a total length of approximately 75 kilometers, is a challenging trek for both beginners and experienced hikers. The maximum number of km per day is between 9 km and 14 km.
The GR138 starts in the small town of Llanos de la Pez and runs through the center of the island, through ancient forests and over spectacular mountain ridges. Along the way you pass traditional Canarian villages, impressive beautiful views of Roque Nublo with its striking islands.
The route is well marked with the characteristic white-red stripes of the GR trails, ensuring a carefree and safe hiking experience. Thanks to the varied stages, hikers can adapt their tour to their own pace and interests. Whether you are looking for the challenge of steep climbs or want to enjoy peaceful walks through unexpected landscapes, the GR138 offers something for everyone. This new walking route is a must for anyone who wants to discover Gran Canaria in a unique and adventurous way.

1| Arrival in Las Palmas
Upon arrival at the airport, our Taxi will take you to your accommodation in Artenara. A nice small mountain village where you stay in an apartment with breakfast at the local restaurant. Rest well for tomorrow.
2| Departure Artenara to Llanos de la Pez
The stage from Artenara to Llano´s de la Pez via Cruz de Tejeda is a beautiful journey through the heart of Gran Canaria. Starting in Artenara you walk on small paths surrounded by pine forests. At Cruz de Tejeda, the iconic intersection on the route, you will have the opportunity for a break and a look at the Artesania stalls. The tour continues to Llano’s de la Pez where you will stay in a wooden house on a camping site in the middle of nature. Option for breakfast, packed lunch or meal is available.

Elevation difference: +770 up / – 330 down
3| Llanos de la Pez to Tejeda
The first part of this tour runs over the plateau of Llano´s de la Pez. Along the way you pass the impressive Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayaga. Before you start the descent to Tejeda you will pass through La Culata where you can take a break. The descent has fantastic panoramas and, especially in spring, you walk through the flower fields into Tejeda. Take a nice terrace and be surprised by the local bakers with the sweet cakes that Tejeda is known for!

4| Departure from Tejeda to Solana
The walk to Solana passes through the heart of Gran Canaria. From Tejeda you descend past almond trees and fragrant flowers. You still have a view of Roque Bentayga and the surrounding valleys. Walking to Solana you will see the quiet rural life and the Canarian architecture. Because the tour ends in a place where there is only one accommodation, there is the option to go to Artenara with our transfer. You can also drop this off on the route the next day. We will coordinate this with you.

5| Depart La Solana to Acusa
The first few kilometers are quiet, and you can see the climb you still have to do in front of you. Today you will gain the most elevation gain, 870 meters up to the Presa de Candelaria reservoir, with a view of the Tamadaba nature reserve you will end in Acusa, where you will also find cave houses. Our transfer will pick you up to take you to the accommodation in Artenara. Of course you will be dropped off the next day where you ended up today.

6| Departure Acusa to Tamadaba
After you return to the route, you walk further into the Tamadaba nature park. Tamadaba is a natural park known for its extensive pine forests, which are among the oldest and best preserved in the Canary Islands. The park has a rich biodiversity, including rare plant species and various bird species.

Elevation difference: +570 up / – 270 down
7| Depart Tamadaba to Artenara
You will be dropped off in the Tamadaba area in the morning. Today you will walk the final sixth stage of this special trek. You walk along the large Preza de los Perez reservoir to Artenara where you arrive at your accommodation.

Elevation difference: +710 up / – 760 down

If you have booked an 8-day trip, you will be dropped off at the airport. If you want to stay a few extra days, that is also possible. We will help you with this.
