1| Arrival in Arrecife
After a comfortable flight, you will land at Lanzarote Airport (Arrecife – ACE), where your adventure on this special island begins. Once you have collected your luggage, a transfer will be waiting for you that will take you directly to Órzola in the north of the island. You will stay in simple but comfortable accommodation.
2| Departure from Órzola to Haría
The north of Lanzarote is the greenest part of the island, with a varied landscape of mountains, valleys and traditional agriculture. This area is often slightly cloudier than the south, which contributes to the fertile soil. From Órzola you walk through the impressive mountains towards Haría, past white villages such as Máguez, which is known for its authentic Canarian architecture.
Between Orzola and Haria lies the Corona volcano, a dormant volcano with an impressive crater and extensive lava fields. Special plant species grow here that have adapted to the volcanic soil. At Guinate you have a spectacular viewpoint, where you have a panoramic view of the island of La Graciosa. This is one of the beautiful viewpoints of Lanzarote.
In addition, you see a lot of traditional agriculture in this region. Potatoes, figs and grapes are grown in the fertile valleys around Haría.
Haría itself has a cozy village center with many palm trees, which thrive thanks to natural water sources. This village was the home of the famous artist César Manrique. His former house is now a museum that you can visit for a fee.
Distance: 21.6 km
Difference in altitude: +570 up / – 540 down
3| Departure Haría to Teguise
This challenging 21.5 km trail run with 570 metres of elevation gain takes you through the spectacular interior of Lanzarote. From the green valley of Haría to the highlands of Bosquecillo, this route offers spectacular views.
You start in Haría, the village of a thousand palm trees. Via winding trails you climb towards Mirador de Bosquecillo, a hidden gem with panoramic views of Risco de Famara and the Atlantic Ocean.
Then you descend to Los Valles, where traditional agricultural terraces and old farms dominate the landscape. This part runs faster on wider paths and unpaved roads. The final climb takes you to Nazaret, where you pass Lagomar, the iconic house of Omar Sharif, carved into volcanic rock. A short stop here is a must!
Distance: 21.6 km
Altitude difference: +570 up / -540 down
4| Departure Teguise to San Bartolomé
This 20 km long trail run with 260 meters of elevation gain takes you through the open, dry landscape of central Lanzarote. In contrast to the rugged mountains in the north, here you run over vast lava fields, rolling sand paths and along villages. A less technical, but beautiful route.
You start in Teguise, the historic capital of the island. After a few kilometers on wide paths with a view of volcanoes you reach Soo, a small village that blends seamlessly into the volcanic landscape. The route continues towards El Islote, located in the wine region of Lanzarote. Along the way you pass small volcanic craters and black lava fields, where stone walls protect the grape vines from the wind.
Distance: 20 km
Height difference: +260 up / -280 down
5| Rest day
After a few intensive trail days, this rest day is perfect to relax and soak up the unique atmosphere of central Lanzarote. You can spend this day as you wish: relax, explore the area or take part in an optional wine tasting in the nearby wine region of La Geria.
Also nearby is Monumento al Campesino, a work of art and cultural centre designed by the famous artist César Manrique. This monument is a tribute to the farmers of Lanzarote, who ingeniously made agriculture possible in the dry, volcanic landscape.
6| Departure from San Bartolomé to Yaiza
This stage is one of the most beautiful! From El Islote you walk through an impressive volcanic landscape towards Yaiza. You pass Montaña Blanca, named after the mountain of the same name. In clear weather you have a beautiful view of Fuerteventura here.
After La Asomada the landscape changes: you enter the wine region of La Geria, where grapes grow in characteristic holes in the black lava soil. A spectacular sight! The Timanfaya Mountains also loom with their red volcanoes.
The last few kilometres you follow an old camel path towards Yaiza. You might even come across camels carrying tourists through the landscape.
Distance: 21.6 km
Difference in altitude: +460 up / -570 down
7| Departure Yaiza to Playa Blanca
The last stage of this 22 km long trail run with 720 meters of elevation gain is perhaps also one of the most beautiful and toughest stages. You cross the rugged Los Ajaches mountain range, along the spectacular Papagayo beaches, and end in the lively seaside resort of Playa Blanca.
You leave Yaiza and walk to the old volcanic massif of Los Ajaches. The climb becomes steeper and more technical with narrow, rocky paths that require a lot of effort. At the top you are rewarded with a beautiful view over the south coast of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura (in clear weather).
After the climb follows a technical descent to the famous Papagayo beaches. Enjoy the panoramic view over the golden beaches and the clear blue water. This is the perfect moment to take a break and take off your shoes. Bring your swimsuit!
The last kilometers you walk along the coastline from Papagayo to Playa Blanca. An epic end to your Lanzarote trail run!
