Tijarafe, a village rich in living traditions in the northwest of La Palma, offers us the chance to discover a hidden gem of extraordinary beauty: Porís de Candelaria.
In this municipality, 700 meters above sea level, we find Barranco del Jurado, the starting point of our hike. From here, we embark on a journey to a small paradise, tucked beneath a towering cliff right by the sea.

Following the PR LP 12.2 trail, we descend along a well-maintained path towards the coast. Enjoy the breathtaking views of this impressive ravine, with almost vertical walls reaching up to 620 meters high. Along the way, we discover unique geological formations, agricultural landscapes, diverse bird species, and fascinating flora, making this area a protected natural reserve.
As the ravine narrows, we follow a winding path leading to Playa del Jurado, a coastal settlement that once served as an important seaport for trading goods, especially salt and fish.

Let yourself be amazed by the stunning views of the ravine and the vast blue ocean as we climb up the right bank of Barranco del Jurado, on a path similar to our descent.
In less than half an hour, while enjoying spectacular views of La Palma’s steep and rugged west coast, we arrive at this remarkable natural harbor. Built in honor of the Virgin of Candelaria, it is a place of peace and wonder, where we will have some free time before starting our return journey.

This giant cave, approximately 50 meters high, with its row of century-old white houses, the crystal-clear blue waters, and the absolute tranquility, creates a magical place…Welcome to Porís de Candelaria. Here, time stands still. Here, you will be left speechless.
