At the highest peak of La Palma, Roque de Los Muchachos (2,426 m), you can enjoy an unforgettable and breathtaking panoramic view. The sea of clouds creates a spectacular and unique sight. The air on La Palma is so clear and pure that this location is one of the best places in the world for stargazing—the perfect spot for an astronomical observatory!From the Mirador del Roque de Los Muchachos, we follow the GR-131 trail, also known as El Bastón, which runs along the edge of Caldera de Taburiente National Park.
The route starts with a rugged and uneven path but gradually becomes smoother as we approach the telescopes, where we can observe these fascinating scientific structures up close.

Along the way, we are treated to breathtaking views into the depths of the Caldera de Taburiente, one of the world’s largest erosion craters and a true geological wonder. The trail offers an ever-changing variety of vegetation, including cedars, codeso, broom shrubs, top thoughts, and tajinastes.
In spring, the majestic tajinastes bloom, creating a spectacular sight! The path crosses a basalt stone wall, the Wall of Roberto, the protagonist of a unique local legend.
To the north of Caldera de Taburiente, the volcanic rock formations give the landscape an almost surreal appearance. From the Mirador de Los Andenes, you can admire an impressive view of the Barranco de Las Angustias canyon in nearly its entirety.
From here, the trail winds through the natural obstacles of the rugged terrain, leading us to Pico de La Cruz, where, on clear days, we can see the islands of El Hierro, La Gomera, and Tenerife.

What a gift it is to hike to the sky of La Isla Bonita, for La Palma is much more than just a volcano.
