Descent into the Heart of the Caldera de Taburiente

If you are a nature lover, descending into the heart of this crater is an experience you simply cannot miss.
The Caldera de Taburiente is the largest erosion crater in the world, with a diameter of approximately 8 km and walls reaching up to 2 km high. You won’t believe your eyes! And the diversity of flora and fauna here is absolutely stunning. No wonder the Caldera de Taburiente was declared a National Park in 1954.
We begin our hike at Mirador de Los Brecitos (1,040 m altitude) and descend into the spectacular natural beauty of La Palma. Along the way, we breathe in the fresh, aromatic scents of the Canarian pine forest while enjoying breathtaking views over the National Park and Pico Bejenado. What an experience!

Following the PR LP 13 trail, we journey into the heart of the Caldera de Taburiente, crossing wooden bridges, deep ravines with flowing water, streams, and waterfalls. This hike is an adventure in itself—climbing, sliding, descending, and marveling at the surroundings. It challenges our legs, but the spectacular views make it all worthwhile.
Along the way, we encounter the majestic Roque Idafe, once a sacred symbol for the Guanches, the island’s indigenous people.
We also reach the Cascada de Colores, an iconic waterfall of La Palma, where vivid ochre, green, and reddish hues blend together in a magical display of colors. A truly unique and idyllic spot!
At the campsite, we take a well-deserved refreshing dip in the cool, crystal-clear waters before continuing our journey.
The return route takes us through the Barranco de Las Angustias, where special rock formations capture our attention. What an incredible and breathtaking landscape!
