Hiking Independently
During an individual hiking holiday, you hike independently from one point to the next. You decide when to set off, when to take a break and what pace to walk. For each hiking day, you receive the route information and a GPX file. You can use an app such as Komoot to follow the route on your phone. You do not need to be an experienced GPS user. It is important, however, to know in advance how to use your phone, GPX and the route information.
Everything Arranged in Advance
Hiking independently does not mean that you have to organise everything yourself. Before you leave, we arrange the parts of your hiking holiday that are included in the trip. This may include accommodation, luggage transfer and transfers. You also receive all the information you need to hike the routes independently. Exactly what is included varies from one hiking holiday to another. That is why you will find a clear overview of the included services with each trip.
Hiking Independently, with Support
During an individual hiking holiday, you travel independently, but you are not completely on your own. If you have a question during your trip or something unexpected happens, you can contact us. We are available to provide support when needed. This gives you the freedom of hiking independently, with the reassurance that someone is available behind the scenes.
Who Is an Individual Hiking Holiday Suitable For?
An individual hiking holiday is suitable for hikers who like to set their own pace and do not want to be tied to a group. It is a good choice, for example, if you want to hike with your partner, a friend or a small group of people. You do not need to be an experienced trekker. What matters more is that you feel comfortable hiking independently and that the distances and hiking grade of the trip you choose match your fitness level.
What Is the Difference from a Group Hiking Holiday?
On a group hiking holiday, you hike together with other participants and a guide. On an individual hiking holiday, you decide how and when you walk each stage. An individual hiking holiday therefore gives you more freedom. You can stay somewhere a little longer, take an extra break or set off a little earlier. A group hiking holiday can be a good choice if you enjoy walking with others and value the guidance of a guide.
What Does a Typical Day Look Like?
A typical hiking day starts at your accommodation. After breakfast, you set off whenever it suits you. You then follow the planned route using the route information and GPX. Along the way, you decide yourself where and when to take a break. At the end of the day, you arrive at your next accommodation. When luggage transfer is included in your trip, your luggage will be waiting for you there. The next day, a new stage begins.
Individual Does Not Mean Completely on Your Own
Many people like the idea of hiking independently but wonder whether they have to organise everything themselves along the way. That is not the case with our individual hiking holidays. We prepare the trip in advance and make sure you know where you need to be, which route you will be hiking and where you will be staying. During your trip, you can focus mainly on hiking and enjoying your surroundings.
Our Practical Tip
Choose an individual hiking holiday if you enjoy hiking independently but do not want to organise all the accommodation, routes, luggage transfers and transport yourself. In particular, check the hiking grade and daily distances before booking. This gives you a clear idea of what to expect and allows you to set off independently with confidence.
