Gran Canaria
Everything you need to know about Lanzarote
Pura Pasión
Gran Canaria is an entire continent in one
Gran Canaria has it all for the active holidaymaker. You can walk, hike, climb, abseiling, canyoning, Via Ferrata and of course all conceivable water sports.
The island has a subtropical climate with many microclimates that provide a very diverse landscape. Sometimes you imagine yourself in the Sahara, then again in the Sierra Nevada and another time on the Norwegian coast.
Gran Canaria is a rough island, centered on Roque Nublo. This rock is a monolith of 67 meters high! Opposite the south, where tourism can be found on the beautiful beaches, it seems as if you have ended up in a completely different world in the middle.

About Gran Canaria
Discover all these Canary Islands
Along the coast you will find beaches and dunes. Inland you will find high rugged mountains and steep cliffs. In the heart of the island, the Pico de las Nieves ‘peaks’ at 1949 meters. In the north it is cooler, greener and wooded. In the south it is warmer, drier and more desert-like. The large city of Las Palmas exudes a typical Spanish atmosphere.
overnight
Overnight stays
You have a wide choice here: large tourist resorts, the lively city, old cozy towns and villages. Special overnight stays in boutique hotels with or without wellness, in old casas rurales and fincas, liberal hostels, on a campsite or in a cave house.
Multi-days trekking
De GR131 Camino Natural Gran Canaria
The long-distance route, the GR131, is 75 kilometers long. You walk from northwest to south Gran canaria. From sea level you bridge many altimeters, with the top at 1700 meters, to end up at sea level again. The start is in Agaete, and you immediately climb from the San Pedro valley to the famous Tamadaba forest. A tough but very beautiful climb to the top. If you have time, visit the coffee plantations in San Pedro. Artenara is a mountain village where people still live in cave houses. From here we have Roque Nuble as a viewpoint, until we arrive in Cruz de Tejeda at our mountain inn.
On top of it all: this island has a pleasant climate all year round. A great destination, so close to home!
The GR131 Gran Canaria is the third island of the long distance route.
In the northeast of Gran Canaria in the place Agaete is the starting point of the GR131. A trek of 620km that goes over all the Canary Islands.
The accommodations have also been carefully selected here; small-scale and attractive. We spend the night in old mountain inns, cave houses and casas rurales, far away from mass tourism.
Difficulty Category ****
Highest point 1949 mt
The trip is a tough trip and does require some fitness; every day we walk an average of 15 kilometers on unpaved paths and rough landscapes. Gran Canaria is about 73 km long with the necessary altimeters. The first island where the 3842 altimeters must be bridged seriously.
