The GR131 Lanzarote is the first island of the long distance route. Including Lugage transfer.
In the north of Lanzarote in Orzola is the starting point of the entire GR131. A trek of 620km that crosses all islands. Lanzarote is about 80km long with the fewest altitude meters. What will you see during this walk? The north of Lanzarote which is rough and the most green. You walk along the Corona volcano towards the highest point. Where you have a magnificent view over the entire island. The landscape of Lanzarote is very volcanic and you will see that during your trip. The transition from a rough landscape to a landscape that resembles a poffertjes pan is unique in the world. This landscape provides the delicious wines of Lanzarote. You leave this landscape towards the south, Playa Blanca where you can relax by the azure blue sea. The trek is not extremely difficult but does require some fitness; every day you walk an average of 15 kilometers on unpaved paths with more or less altimeters.
The accommodations have been carefully selected; small-scale and attractive. We spend the night in old fincas and casas rurales, far away from mass tourism.

1| Arrival in Arrecife
Upon arrival in Lanzarote, a transfer is waiting for you. It will take you to the northernmost coastal town of Órzola where you will spend the night in simple but neat accommodation. Enjoy the cozy atmosphere of restaurants on the harbor in the evening. There is a supermarket if you want to buy food and drinks for the next day.
2| Departure Órzola to Haría
The north of Lanzarote is the greenest, and sometimes more cloudy than the south. From Órzola you leave straight through the mountains towards Haría. On the way you can really enjoy the beautiful views and we pass nice villages. Such as the village of Máguez, a peaceful village with authentic Canarian architecture. Haría is the first stop and has a pleasant village center. It was also the residence of the locally well-known César Manrique. A man with a unique progressive vision about harmony between man and nature. Manrique’s house is now a museum, which you can visit for a fee.
Distance: 12 km
Height difference: +179 up / -459 down
3| Departure Haría to Teguise
Today, in addition to the considerable number of kilometers, the program also includes bridging the highest point of the island, the Peñas del Charce. Over the massif at Famara, the route continues towards Teguise, the former capital of Lanzarote. You can find your nice accommodation in cozy authentic Teguise.
Distance: 14 km
Height difference: +367 up / -356 down
4| Departure Teguise to San Bartolomé
From Teguise you walk to San Bartolomé through an agricultural area with some white houses scattered over the landscape. In the past, this was the granary of the island. It is a relatively flat route and you will arrive in San Bartolomé early in the afternoon where you can enjoy a sandwich or cake at a bakery.
Distance: 12 km
Height difference: +69 up / -118 down
5| Rest day
You can spend this day according to your own needs and if you want, you can participate in a wine tasting. The lover of Cesar Manrique could visit his house today.
6| Departure San Bartolomé to Yaiza
A long walk today, but we personally think the most beautiful. From San Bartolomé you walk between the volcanoes. On the way you pass the village of Montaña Blanca, named after the mountain of the same name. When the weather is clear you can see Fuerteventura. After La Asomada we immediately enter a transition from the dry area to the wine region of La Geria. Spectacularly beautiful how the grapes grow here for miles in the typical dimples for the island. You can also see the Timanfaya mountains beautifully with the different shades of red. You may encounter some camels on the way that make the rounds with tourists.
Distance: 22 km
Height difference: +455 up / -572 down
7| Depart Yaiza to Playa Blanca
The last day. You walk to Las Breñas through a somewhat rougher area. Boulders and pebbles, scrambling up and down. In the distance you can see the salt pans (the Salinas Janubio) of the island to the right of the route. In Las Breñas you can enjoy a cup of coffee or something else. You will walk the last part through a long flat stretch. In the distance you can see Playa Blanca, but it is still quite a distance. You will probably see goat herders walking around with their goats on this plain. Here on this plain it can be quite hot and there is no shelter of shade!
Playa Blanca is getting closer and once at the edge of town you continue walking to the end point of this trek. It is located in the center near the old harbour.
Maybe tired, but hopefully very satisfied and proud of completing this adventurous journey, you have another day to recover and relax.
