Camino de Santiago “The Way of Saint James of Gran Canaria”
The Camino de Santiago de Gran Canaria is more than a walking route. The road is a journey with yourself, with friends, with family and sometimes with strangers. you walk this path with an open heart, from south to north all over the island.
We are not going to kid you, the walking route of the Camino Santiago in Gran Canaria has nothing to do with the “Camino de Santiago de Compostela”. This route, as Isabel Albella tells in her book, is the path between volcanoes. This is also not really true….. !! She describes a “contrast of landscapes” where the pilgrim discovers a fairytale island step by step. This is really true!!! This trip includes the variant! We walked this trek ourselves and it is a beautiful one from start to finish. You get to see Gran Canaria in its purest form. Of course you also have your “Pilgrims Pass” with you on this Camino to collect the necessary stamps. This pass is included in the trip. Stamping post one is right at the beginning in Maspalomas.

2| Departure from Tunte to Cruz de Tejeda
After stamping your pilgrim card, you will set off into the high mountains. You walk to the top where you have a well-deserved overnight stay in Cruz de Tejeda. You can get your stamps at the local stalls in this nice village!
Cruz de Tejeda is also your rest day, you will stay here for 2 nights.
Gran Canaria’s Jacobean Route originally starts here and connects the two parishes, that of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and the parish of Santiago Apóstol de Gáldar. It is perhaps the most attractive stage, without compromising the rest of the journey. You walk through the heart of Gran Canaria and discover the middle mountains. A demanding route in the first third of the route, but it will reward you with beautiful views of the ever-present Roque Nublo.
Distance: 16 km
Height difference: +1050 up / -460 down
3| Departure from Garañón to Tejeda
This variant is included in the Way of Saint James because this is the most beautiful part of Gran Canaria. Roque Nublo and the picturesque town of Tejeda, which has been declared one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. This variant of the Camino became official in 2021.
Distance: 15 km
Height difference: +900 up / -1050 down
4| Departure from Cruz de Tejeda to Gáldar
You can get different stamps here. Every local stall in this village has its own stamp. After your map has been filled with more stamps, you leave for Gáldar. A long descent with sometimes difficult steep parts. A journey through the natural history of the island, discovering black volcanoes, lush forests between the clouds and green meadows.
Gáldar is the end of this journey! You can collect your certificate in the large cathedral.
The last two nights you will stay in the nice town of Agaete.
