Your journey begins in Santiago del Teide with a beautiful circular route toward the iconic Masca village. On the second day, you’ll hike through the lava fields of Chinyero, where nature’s raw power is on full display. The trail leads through diverse landscapes, including lush pine forests, volcanic terrain, laurel woods, barren highlands above the tree line at El Teide, and limestone paths and ravines.
The trek concludes with a scenic descent through tranquil forests toward Vilaflor and Arona, where you can soak in the natural serenity and experience the authentic spirit of Tenerife. You’ll stay in charming, small-scale mountain hotels, offering comfort and local hospitality along the way.

1 | Arrival Tenerife
Transfer from the airport to your first accommodation in Santiago del Teide, where we stay for two nights.
2 |Circular Hike Masca/Teno
You take a circular hike from Santiago del Teide towards Masca and Teno. The route is approximately 13 kilometers long with 390 meters of ascent and descent, making it ideal for a gentle start. Along the way, you walk through a varied mountain landscape with views of the characteristic peaks of the Teno Mountains. The trail alternates between open sections with wide vistas and more secluded paths, allowing you to fully enjoy the peace of nature. After a diverse hike, you return to Santiago del Teide.

3 | Santiago del Teide – Los Partidos
The hike from Santiago del Teide to Los Partidos is a beautiful journey through Tenerife’s interior, passing hills, pine forests, and ancient volcanic landscapes. A highlight of this route is the area around the Chinyero volcano, site of Tenerife’s last volcanic eruption in 1909. The walk ends in the quiet village of Los Partidos, where you can stay in a traditional Canarian setting.

4 | Los Partidos – Los Narices Parking
Today you hike from Los Partidos to the junction at Los Narices. The trail passes through a varied landscape: first open fields and Canarian pine forests, then paths with old lava flows and volcanic terrain. As you gain height, the scenery gradually changes from rural hills to clearly volcanic landscapes, with continuous views of Teide. After the hike, you are picked up and transferred to Vilaflor, where you stay for the next two nights.
Optional: You can spend one or two nights at the Parador to go to the summit of El Teide with or without a guide. In this case, the free day in Los Cristianos is replaced. Ask about the possibilities and indicate this option in your booking request.

5 | Parking Teide Guajara-Vilaflor
Today’s hike takes you from the Parador to Vilaflor. The route passes along the flank of Guajara and then descends southwards. Along the way, you walk through the unique area of Paisaje Lunar, where the volcanic terrain has formed striking shapes. The trail alternates between open stretches with wide views and sections through pine forest, providing a varied hiking experience. The route ends in the mountain village of Vilaflor.

6 | Downhill to Arona
Today you hike from Vilaflor to Arona. The route is mostly downhill, passing through Canarian pine forests and open terrain. Along the way, you enjoy frequent views of the south coast and later the impressive Barranco del Infiernoravine. The final section follows quiet paths into the village of Arona, where the day concludes. After completing the hike, a transfer takes you to Los Cristianos.

El Teide is located in the National Park. It is the highest mountain in Spain with the recent measurement of 3715 meters above sea level. It is a stratovolcano measuring almost 7000 meters from the base (seabed). It is the 3rd highest volcano in the world after Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, both located in Hawaii.

Explanation of excursion:
We go up on foot from the parking lot of the hotel “Parador Nacional” to the Pico Viejo volcano crater and to the top of Teide. We stay at the summit for about 30 minutes and then descend on foot to the mountain station of the cable car at 3555 m, and descend to the base station at 2356 m.
* (in case you cannot use it, the descent will be done on foot, which requires about 3-4 hours of descent).
■ Kilometers: Total approx. 12 kilometers.
■ Height difference: total approx. 1450 m.
■ Height: 3715 m. max. and 2348 meters. min.
■ Timetable: total 7 – 8 hours approximately. (including descent with cable car).

**Time depends on your pace, as well as the terrain conditions and weather on that day.
**If the cable car is not operating due to weather conditions, we will descend on foot, which may cost us an additional 4 hours and a descent of approximately 1200 meters, so we must be prepared for that. Make sure you have enough food and water.

We will make a climb on foot from the parking lot at the foot of Montaña Blanca. We climb to the top and descend on foot to the mountain station of the cable car at 3555 m, and then descend to the base station at 2356 m.

Hiking to Alto de Guajara
One of the legends of the National Park is Guajara, a Guanche princess who, after losing her darling Tinguaro in the Battle of Aguere, rose to the top and, after a long wandering, threw herself into the void of the walls of Guajara.
The walk leads to 2700 meters above sea level and offers what is considered by many people the best viewpoint for seeing Spain’s highest mountain, Teide.

The trail continues south until a marked trail is found that climbs the Alto de Guajara mountain. At the summit it is possible to see the remains of the various astronomical observatories placed in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the first astronomical observatory on high mountains created by Piazzl Smyth. He demonstrates Isaac Newton’s theories on the benefits of observation from great heights. Therefore, this place is perfect for watching the dark sky at night.

When you step out of the cabin of the Cable Car you stand at an altitude of 3555 m and you can choose from several options to enjoy the impressive landscape of the largest National Park in the Canary Islands. Choose the La Rambleta Viewpoint to enjoy the view over the Siete Cañadas and the Ucanca Valley. So you can imagine how big the ancient volcano, better known as Cañadas, was from 150,000 years ago when El Teide did not yet exist. The Las Cañadas cirque unfolds in front of you, with Montaña Guajara as its highest point. They are the remains of a larger volcano that collapsed under its own weight and moved towards the north coast in just a few minutes.
